Edward Slack

Mr. Edward Hammond Slack, Jr., 72, of Douglasville, Georgia passed away Sunday, August 21, 2016 at his residence. He was born December 6, 1943 in Sharon, South Carolina, the son of the late Mr. Edward Hammond Slack, Sr. and the late Mrs. Margaret Aycoth Slack. He was a retired Master Sergeant of the United States Air Force having served for over 22 years. After retiring from the military, he worked at LaFarge Concrete Company in Maintenance until he retired. He enjoyed tinkering and fixing things. He loved working in the yard. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed shooting guns. He loved to travel and especially loved the ocean. He was devoted to family and was especially proud of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was a devoted member of Grace Baptist Church in Powder Springs. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Amelia S. Cox, Sara Slack, and Eddie Mae Slack; and brothers, Leroy Slack and Donald Slack. He is survived by his wife, Phyllis Joyce Cole Slack of Douglasville; his beloved children and their spouses, Terri and Keith Rigoni of Hartselle, AL, William Alan and Lisa Baggett of Russellville, AL, Sherie and David Miljanich of Ooltewah, TN, and Michael Slack and Juana Cline of Atlanta; his sisters, Helen S. Sluder of Chester, SC and Margaret S. Claiborne of South Carolina; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends at Jones-Wynn Funeral Home in Douglasville Wednesday, August 24, 2016 from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM. Funeral Services will be conducted Thursday, August 25, 2016 at 2:00 PM at the Chapel of Jones-Wynn Funeral Home in Douglasville with Brother Kenneth McDaniel officiating and Mr. Sam Clark providing the eulogy. Military Honors will be provided by the United States Air Force Honor Guard. Following the funeral service, Mr. Slack will be cremated.
