Mr. Edward Q. âShineâ Yancey, age 83, of Douglasville, Georgia, formerly of Union City, Georgia, passed away Sunday, August 8, 2010 at his residence following an extended illness. He was born September 11, 1926 in Union City, Georgia the son of the late Mr. Claude Yancey and the late Mrs. Linda Edwards Yancey. He was a member of Rebecca Baptist Church in Palmetto and worked as a plant supervisor for B&P Iron Company. He married Geraldine Virginia McLendon on December 7, 1948. They resided in Union City for over 25 years. He and his wife served as foster parents for over 35 years and had 20 foster children in their home. On December 19, 1999 they were featured in the Douglas County Sentinel for their many years of service to foster children in our area. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Geraldine Virginia McLendon Yancey on September 2, 2008. Funeral Services will be conducted Tuesday, August 10, 2010 at 11:00 AM from the Douglas Chapel of Jones-Wynn Funeral Home with Rev. Carl Adams and Rev. Phillip Rice officiating. Interment will follow at Holly Hills Memorial Park in Fairburn. The family will receive friends at Jones-Wynn Funeral Home, Douglas Chapel, Monday, August 9, 2010 from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM.
