Eleanor Roberta Petty, a beloved homemaker and cherished matriarch, passed away peacefully at her home on November 9, 2024 at the age of 88. Born on May 29, 1936, in Harris County, Georgia, to the late Mr. John R. Shaw and the late Mrs. Opal Shaw.
Eleanor is a graduate of Douglas County High School. She dedicated her life to nurturing and caring for her family, embodying a selfless and graceful spirit. With a heart of gold, she was always ready to lend a listening ear or pray a prayer. As the devoted wife of a deacon, she was deeply involved in her faith community, serving others with compassion. Many knew her as a “prayer warrior”, instilling a sense of hope wherever she went.
Eleanor's home was a sanctuary of joy, especially during the holidays. She loved to host gatherings, creating lasting memories and traditions for her family. Her favorite was Christmas, where she enjoyed the famous white elephant gift exchanges. These gatherings were not just events; they were celebrations of love, connection, and the spirit of family — which she treasured above all.
Her devotion extended beyond hosting duties; she deeply loved and celebrated her nieces and nephews – as well as her siblings, Martha, Peggy and Millard, whom she raised as her own children. A good Christian woman, Eleanor’s proudest accomplishments were rooted in the relationships she built and the love she shared.
Outside of her familial joys, Eleanor found comfort in the simple pleasures of life, often relaxing with her favorite Hallmark movies. These heartwarming tales reflected the kindness and compassion that Eleanor embodied in her own life, reminding those around her of the beauty of love and connection.
In addition to her parents, Eleanor is preceded in death by her husband, Mr. Linnie D. Petty; grandson, Daniel Driver; brothers, Donald Shaw and Johnny Shaw; sister, Katherine Thompson.
She is survived by her daughter, Sharon (Harold) Driver; grandchildren, Matt (Jade) Driver, Josh (Carrie) Driver; great-grandchildren, Maddox Driver, Madalen Driver, Nate Driver and Reid Driver.
