Elton Leroy Bowman, Sr., a devoted family man, passed away on March 14, 2025, at the age of 83. He was born on June 12, 1941, in Georgia, to the late Mr. Benjamin H. Bowman, Sr. and the late Mrs. Mary L. Peters Bowman.
Elton was known for his generosity, humor, and support for those around him. He dedicated over 50 years of his life to the Chattahoochee Brick Company, now known as General Shale, where he exemplified hard work and commitment. Those who had the pleasure of knowing Elton will remember him for his kind-hearted nature and his kindness toward others. He was always ready to lend a helping hand, whether it was through acts of service or generous donations to charities such as the International Fellowship of Christians and Jews, St. Jude's, and The Wounded Warrior Project.
In his personal life, Elton found joy in various pursuits. He loved fishing and hunting, cherished the times he spent at the lakehouse, enjoyed meals at restaurants, and loved playing cards with his cousins. A special mention goes to Mrs. Mary Thomas's cinnamon apples, which he loved eating. Elton was also a devoted grandfather, attending all of his grandkids' games and cheering them on with an uplifting spirit.
Elton is survived by his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, who were undoubtedly among his proudest accomplishments. His legacy of kindness, support, and love will continue to resonate in the hearts of all who were touched by his life.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded In death by his brothers-in-law, Benny Pope and Horace Palmer.
He is survived by Ms. Mary Thomas; daughters and sons-in-law, Mary (Robert Oakley) Davis, Judy (Randy) Warren and step-daughter Amy Hughes; son, Elton Bowman, Jr.; sisters and brother-in-law, Carolyn Pope, Ellen (Mike) Hawkins, and Shirley Palmer; brothers and sister-in-law, Benjamin H. Bowman Jr., and Raymond (Sandra) Bowman; 6 grandchildren, Gerold Armstrong, Kristen Armstrong, Hayden Davis, Irving Christiansen, Ashley Blanchard and Nick Hughes; 5 great-grandchildren, Isaiah, Austin, Nathan, Tucker and Zoie; close cousin, Pete Peters and his wife Margaret, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, March 20, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Jones-Wynn - Douglas Chapel, following the visitation, a funeral service will commence at 12:00 PM with Pastor Mike Sprayberry officiating. He will be laid to rest at Mt Harmony Memorial Gardens, in Mableton, Georgia.
