Mr. Emmett Iverson Underwood, Sr., age 84, of Douglasville, Georgia passed away Thursday, July 28, 2011. He was born February 18, 1927 in LaGrange, Georgia the son of the late Mr. Burell Thomas Underwood and the late Mrs. Ella Whaley Underwood. He served as a Medic First Class on the USS Lexington in the U.S. Navy during World War I1. He began his working career as a funeral director and then he began his career as a mail carrier with the United States Postal Service where he retired following 30 years of service. He is a member of Victory Baptist Church in Douglasville. He is survived by his wife, Mary Henley Underwood of Douglasville; two daughters and sons-in-law, Brenda and Hugh Conner of Douglasville and Susan and Stephen Bowers of Columbia, South America where they are serving in foreign missions; one son and daughter in law, Emmett I. Jr. and Dianna Underwood of Douglasville; 4 grandchildren, Amy Underwood, Georgia Underwood, Corbin Bowers and Austin Bowers; 1 step grandchild, Makayla Yancy; 1 great-grandson, Riley Iverson Pollard; several nieces and nephews. Funeral Services will be conducted Saturday, July 30, 2011 at 3:00 PM from the Chapel of Jones-Wynn Funeral Home with Rev. Stephen Bowers officiating. Interment will follow at Sunrise Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at Jones-Wynn Funeral Home, Douglas Chapel, Friday, July 29, 2011 from 5:00 PM until 9:00 PM.
