Mr. Emory F. Sikes, age 76, of Douglasville, Georgia passed away Saturday, March 20, 2010 at his residence. He was born April 14, 1933 in Monroe, Georgia the son of the late Mr. Clifford G. Sikes and the late Mrs. Ethel Slaton Sikes. He is preceded in death by his brothers, Clifford Sikes and Bobby Sikes, both of Monroe, GA. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He retired from the Atlanta City Police Department following 35 years of devoted service from March 1957 to December 1991, during which time he was one of the original supervisors of the first SWAT team for Atlanta. He also commanded Zone 2 during his service and the Mounted Patrol until he retired. He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Jones of Douglasville; son, Emory C. Sikes of Atlanta, GA; sisters, Elizabeth Coleman of Monroe, GA and Patricia and Bill Morris of Monroe, GA; several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral Services will be conducted Monday, March 22, 2010 at 1:00 PM from the Douglas Chapel of Jones-Wynn Funeral Home with Pastor Wayne Durden officiating. Serving as pallbearers will be members of the City of Atlanta Police Honor Guard. Interment will follow at Eastview Cemetery in Monroe, Georgia. The family will receive friends at Jones-Wynn Funeral Home, Douglas Chapel, Sunday, March 21, 2010 from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM.
