Ernest Travis Stansel, age 85, of Winston, Georgia, passed away on Sunday, March 24, at the home of his brother, Leon Stansel. Ernest was born in Hall County, Georgia on September 30, 1938, to the late William E. and Margaret Martin Stansel. After high school, he joined the Navy in 1956 where he served aboard an Aircraft Carrier stationed in California. He continued to serve in the Naval Reserve until 1962.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Edward and Floyd Stansel, and two of his sisters Brenda and Ruth Stansel.
He worked for the City of Atlanta as a maintenance engineer and retired from there in 1992. He loved gardening and his family; he enjoyed having the company of his nieces Kate and Ashley Shumate at his home in Pendergrass until his illness required more constant care. He moved to Winston in October 2022 to live with his brother Leon. A quiet man, he leaves behind six siblings and their spouses: Jesse and Charlotte Stansel and Leon and Marjorie Stansel (Winston); Loy and Patricia Stansel (Powder Springs); Geraldine and Ronnie Kitchens (Mableton); Tommy and Sandy Stansel (Lynn Haven, Florida); Benny and Shirley Stansel (Maysville). Also surviving him is his former brother-in-law Kevin Kelly and numerous nieces and nephews.
Ernest will be cremated, and no service is planned at his request.
