Mrs. Essie Strickland Cook Norris, age 85, of Villa Rica, Georgia passed away Friday, October 15, 2010 at WellStar Douglas Hospital. She was born July 8, 1925, in Douglas County, Georgia, the daughter of the late Mr. Asbury Marshall Strickland and the late Mrs. Maude Strickland. She was a member of Utopia Baptist Church and retired as a knitter from Jeanâs Hosiery Mill. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Tobe Cook and second husband, Clarence Fletcher Norris; her sisters, Annie Agan, Velma Morgan, and Louise âLucyâ Landers and brothers, Marvin Strickland, Edward Strickland, Buford Strickland, Hubert Strickland and Walter Strickland. She is survived by her brother, Gene Strickland of Winston; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews also survive. Funeral Services will be conducted Monday, October 18, 2010 at 2:00 PM from the Chapel of Jones-Wynn Funeral Home in Villa Rica with Rev. Anthony Bivins and Rev. Johnny White officiating. Interment will follow at Powell Chapel Cemetery in Villa Rica. The following will serve as pallbearers: Pee Wee Strickland, Marshall Strickland, Staff Sergeant Nick Blackmon, Jerry Agan, Jr., Jerry Agan, Sr., Donald Kiser, Ricky Hogan Jr., Scott Dewberry, and Stanley Strickland. Honorary pallbearers will be Wesley Strickland and Cameron Agan. The family will receive friends at Jones-Wynn Funeral Home of Villa Rica, Sunday, October 17, 2010 from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM.
