Estelle Swafford Griffies

Mrs. Estelle Swafford Griffies, age 96, of Villa Rica, Georgia passed away Monday, February 28, 2011 at Tanner Medical Center in Carrollton. She was born October 23, 1914 in Carroll County, Georgia, the daughter of the late Mr. Sidney Swafford and the late Mrs. Essie Cole Swafford. She was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church of Villa Rica where she was a member of the HHH Sunday School Class. She was a homemaker who loved to knit, sew, and crochet. She was a sweet and loving woman who loved her family and enjoyed taking care of their needs. She was a wonderful cook who specialized in baking cakes and had a love for gardening. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Hubert “Boots” Griffies on January 17, 1998; grandson, Bobby Broome; sister, Ethyl Crawford; brothers, Noah Swafford, Rader Swafford, Gordon “Runt” Swafford, Hubert “Slick” Swafford, and Paschel Swafford. She is survived by her three daughters and sons-in-law, Verrill and E.D. Ray of Villa Rica, Jane and Dr. Larry Boss of Villa Rica, and Judy Duffey of Magnolia Springs, AL; two sisters, Maggie Hall and Gertrude Blair both of Villa Rica; two brothers, Paul Swafford of Villa Rica and Bob Swafford of Fayetteville; five grandchildren and their spouses, Natalie and Bill Benton, Darryl and Amelia Ray, Howard and Shea Ray, Kelley and Shannon Boss, Dr. Ken and Brandy Boss; eight great-grandchildren, Taylor Benton, Sydney Benton, Parker Ray, Landon Ray, Brandon Boss, Bailey Boss, Kennedy Boss, and Reese Boss; several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral Services will be conducted Thursday, March 3, 2011 at 11:00 AM at the Chapel of Jones-Wynn Funeral Home in Villa Rica with Rev. Jeff Jones and Rev. Ben Pilgreen officiating. Musical selections will be provided by Ben Pilgreen. Interment will follow in the Garden of Gethsemane at Meadowbrook Memory Gardens in Villa Rica with her grandsons serving as pallbearers. Honorary escort will be her great-grandsons. The family will receive friends at Jones-Wynn Funeral Home of Villa Rica, Wednesday, March 2, 2011 from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM.
