Evelyn Ruth Thaxton Owens

Mrs. Evelyn Ruth Thaxton Owens, age 82, of Douglasville, Georgia passed away Monday, June 7, 2010. She was born December 31, 1927 in Fulton County, Georgia the daughter of the late Mr. Elmer L. Thaxton and the late Mrs. Opal Irene Ward Thaxton. She married Ernest Jerome Owens on March 4, 1944 in Clayton County, Georgia. She was a member of Perkerson Baptist Church and was a homemaker. She was devoted to her family and was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Ernest Jerome Owens on June 2, 2004; sisters, Betty Merchant, Flora East and Buford East; and brothers, Frank Thaxton, Edward Thaxton and Billy Thaxton. She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Charles and Paulette Owens of Marietta and Dennis and Jan Owens of Winston; brother, Robert L. Thaxton of Florida; 4 granddaughters, Kimberly Jenkins, Kelly Miller, Christy Gable and Allison Vaughn; 4 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral Services will be conducted Wednesday, June 9, 2010 at 11:00 AM from the Douglas Chapel of Jones-Wynn Funeral Home in Douglasville with Dr. David Tew officiating. Interment will follow at College Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Jones-Wynn Funeral Home, Douglas Chapel, Tuesday, June 8, 2010 from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM.
