Florence Pearl Chitwood, age 83, of Douglasville, passed away on August 11, 2023. She was born December 28, 1939 in Atlanta. The daughter of the late Mr. Fred Pattillo and the late Mrs. Ruth Pattillo. Florence devoted much of her time to serving others. She went on mission trips to Ukraine with her church, selflessly helping those in need. Her compassionate nature extended to her own family as well. As a caregiver to her son David, she provided unwavering support and love throughout his life.
In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband, Mr. David Paul Chitwood; sister, Mary Pattillo.
She is survived by her daughters, Deborah Stinson of Stockbridge, Teresa (Mark) Sheppard of Hiram; sons, Michael (Barbra) Prickett of Arkansas, David Chitwood of Douglasville, Troy Chitwood of Abbeyville; 8 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.
In addition to her dedication to others, Florence had a passion for the arts. Painting, crocheting, and sewing were among her favorite hobbies. Her skillful hands created beautiful masterpieces and timeless pieces that brought joy to those who received them. Florence also had a green thumb and found solace in her garden. Her love for gardening was reflected in the vibrant roses and lilies.
The family will receive friends at Jones-Wynn Funeral Home in Douglasville on Friday, August 18, 2023, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM. A funeral service to celebrate Florence's life will follow at 11:00 AM with Rev. Ken Magness officiating. The burial will take place at Sherwood Memorial Park and Mausoleum in Jonesboro, GA at 12:30 PM.
Florence Pearl Chitwood touched the lives of many, leaving behind cherished memories that will be treasured forever. Her kindness, generosity, and loving spirit will continue to inspire all those who were fortunate enough to know her. She will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by her family, friends, and all who had the privilege of crossing paths with her.
May Florence's soul rest in eternal peace, knowing that she made a profound impact on the world around her.
