Mr. Floyd Eugene “Gene” Englett, 84, of Douglasville, Georgia passed away Sunday, July 13, 2014. He was born March 16, 1930 in Atlanta, Georgia, the son of the late Mr. Jessie Floyd Englett and the late Mrs. Mary Louise Shurbutt Englett. He served in the United States Navy during the Korean War. He married Wanda Janice Morgan on October 27, 1956 in Manchester, Georgia. He retired in 1985 from the Atlanta Police Department following 26 years of dedicated service as a police officer. He was a member of the Sons of Confederate Veterans. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Glenn Englett. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Wanda Janice Morgan Englett of Douglasville; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Eddie and Stephanie Englett of Douglasville and David Englett of Douglasville; four sisters, Carolyn Anderegg of Fayetteville, Helen DeBerry of Douglasville, Elinor Cross of Douglasville, and Patricia Carver of Cumming; three grandchildren, Eddie Englett, Jr., Wesly Englett, and Richard Anderson; three great-grandchildren, Selene Englett, Ryan Anderson, and Adelaide Englett; numerous nieces and nephews also survive. The family will receive friends at Jones-Wynn Funeral Home in Douglasville, Wednesday, July 16, 2014 from 2:00 PM until 4:00 PM and from 7:00 PM until 9:00 PM. Funeral Services will be conducted Thursday, July 17, 2014 at 1:00 PM at the Chapel of Jones-Wynn Funeral Home in Douglasville with Pastor Andy Gray and Pastor Donnie Morgan officiating. Interment will follow at Westview Cemetery in Atlanta. Honorary escort will be members of the Sons of Confederate Veterans. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions in memory of Mr. Gene Englett to the Sons of Confederate Veterans, 938 Mandeville Road, Carrollton, Georgia 30117.
