Frances "Marcelle" Bishop

Mrs. Frances Marcelle Bishop, age 68, of Stockmar Road, Villa Rica, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family, Saturday, September 20, 2008. She was born April 28, 1940 in Carroll County, Georgia the daughter of the late Mr. Lloyd E. Williams and the late Mrs. Mattie Lee Key Williams. Mrs. Bishop was a 1958 graduate of Villa Rica High School where she was elected Homecoming Queen 1957 and was the first female basketball player to letter for four years, 1954-1957. She worked at Thornton Chevrolet, as secretary at Villa Rica High School and retired after 27 years of service from Neal Manufacturing as bookkeeper. Mrs. Bishop was a member of Cross Plains Christian Church in Carrollton since 1957 where she served as Sunday school teacher, choir member and taught Vacation Bible School. She enjoyed family trips to the mountains and beach and Southern Gospel Music. Mrs. Bishop was an excellent cook and was especially known for her banana pudding, homemade ice cream and strawberry cake. In addition to parents, Mrs. Bishop was preceded in death by her brothers, Marvin Williams and Elmer Williams and her sisters, Estelle Newell and Evelyn Williams. She is survived by her husband of nearly 50 years, Mr. Larry Bishop of Villa Rica; her sons and daughters-in-law, Anthony and Dianne Bishop of Carrollton and Phil and Jamie Bishop of Dallas; her sisters and brother-in-law, Rudine Freeman of Douglasville, Ruth Etheridge of Manchester, and Jean and Vernon Howle of Raburn, Alabama; her four grandchildren, Tammy, Candi, Jessica and Trayton; her five great-grandchildren, Kayla, Ashlin, Kannon, Destin and Nathin; and several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, September 23, 2008 at 2:00 PM from Bethany Christian Church in Carrollton, Georgia with Minister Dick Hollis, Minister Don Boswell and Minister Billy Kaylor officiating. The Diplomats, The Bethany Quartet and Jessica Bishop will render musical selections. Pallbearers will be Bruce Howle, Doug Etheridge, John Stitcher, Keith Treadwell, Perry Clark, J.P. Hall, Darold Wendlant, Joel Hubbard and Dr. Michael Flood. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be members of the Villa Rica High School graduating class of 1958 (1956-1960) led by Wendell Sticher and members of the Villa Rica High School Girls Basketball Team (1956-1960). Mrs. Bishop will lie in state at the church from 1:00 PM until the funeral hour at 2:00 PM. Interment will follow in Cross Plains Christian Cemetery in Carrollton, Georgia. The family will receive friends on Monday, September 22, 2008 at Jones-Wynn Funeral Home in Villa Rica from 4:00 PM until 9:00 PM.
