Garrett William Feis, 74, passed away on Sunday, June 7, 2026. He was born on January 22, 1952, the son of the late Matthew Robert Feis and the late Peggy Ann Mills Feis.
Garrett spent more than fifty years in the construction industry, a career he loved not for the buildings themselves, but for the people inside them. As one of the first HUD-certified 203 (k) inspectors in the country, he took deep pride in helping homeowners turn the houses they could afford into the homes they had always dreamed of. He saw possibility where others saw problems, and he considered it a privilege to be part of that transformation. Over the years he built a community around that work, mentoring and educating home inspectors across the country and forging friendships that lasted long after the job was done.
Before his life in construction, Garrett served his community as a firefighter and paramedic – a calling that suited a man who was, at his core, someone who showed up for others. He spent his formative years among several motorcycle clubs, and the bonds he made on the road stayed with him for decades. Wherever Garrett went, he gathered people to him.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his beloved wife Delores “Dee” Yearwood Gordon Feis.
He is survived by his children, Laurri Wallace, Garrett (Shanna) Feis Jr., Matt Feis, and Anna Dunn; grandchildren, Rylee Wallace, Bryson Wallace, Slade Wallace, Emery Morgan, Hayden Bentley, Hunter Feis and Avery Dunn. He is also survived by his loving sisters Laurri (David) Lowe and Katie (David) Bast
Garrett was, above all, a storyteller – the kind of man whose voice filled a room and whose tales you wanted to hear again and again. No story made him prouder than the one his own family was writing. He spoke endlessly of his children and grandchildren about all they had accomplished.
Garrett leaves behind a community of friends, colleagues, and fellow riders who were lucky enough to be a part of his story.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the family.
In accordance to his wishes, Garrett will be cremated. With Garrett touching so many lives across the country, a memorial service with everyone present would be almost impossible. The family requests that you share comments/stories via his Facebook page so that all can share in rejoicing.
