Gary Rufus Dillard, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully on March 25, 2025, at the age of 79. He was born on December 16, 1945, in Clarkesville, Georgia, to the late Mr. Clyde Dillard and the late Mrs. Marie Chambers Dillard.
Gary devoted a remarkable 45 years of his life to Georgia Power, where he retired as a respected manager. Those that knew Gary knew him not only for his engaging personality but also for his willingness to mentor others. Beyond his career, Gary was a man of many talents. He had an amazing singing voice and shared that gift as part of a Christian Quartet with his wife, Mrs. Betty.
Known for his strong yet humorous spirit, Gary was seen as a remarkable teacher, whether it was sharing knowledge about mechanics or handyman work, he was always willing to lend a hand or share advice as he enjoyed working on various projects throughout his life, showcasing his skills. Gary was also a loyal Georgia Dawgs fan, and his love for woodworking and tending to his yard brought him peace.
Gary’s proudest accomplishments included his enduring marriage to Mrs. Betty, which spanned over 60 loving years, and the joy he found in his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. His family meant the world to him, and he took immense pride in being a supportive presence in their lives.
Mr. Gary is survived by his loving wife of over 60 years, Mrs. Betty Dillard; son and daughter-in-law, Jeff (Missy) Dillard; daughters and sons-in-law, Karen (Ray) Moore, Kristin (Joey) Craig, and Barbie (Michael) Castile; 8 grandchildren, Colt, McQuade (Michaela), Blake (Claudia), Dani (Joseph), Brady, Nick, Gracie, and Abigail; 10 great-grandchildren, Levi, Zoe, Jonah, Benjamin, Blakely, Lucas, Penelope, Eli, Adon, and Josie Rae.
The interment will take place at Mozley Memorial Gardens in Lithia Springs on Sunday, March 30, 2025, starting at 1:30 PM.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a donation in Gary’s honor to St. Jude’s Research Hospital or to the Wounded Warriors Project.
