Gary Carew Hofele, 85, of Douglasville, passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 28, 2026. He was born on June 28, 1940, the son of the late Harry Walter Hofele and the late Elizabeth Morris Hofele. He leaves behind a legacy that will forever be cherished.
Gary was a remarkable man who dedicated many years of his life to his career at Coca-Cola. One of his greatest joys was traveling and exploring the world. With a insatiable curiosity, Gary and Betty took over 75 cruises, capturing the beauty of different cultures and landscapes.
Gary was a Veteran of the US Army, having served as a communications specialist in the 39th Signal Battalion in Vietnam. He obtained his Juris Doctorate Degree at Georgia State, where his contributions to the field were marked by his unwavering integrity and dedication to justice. Beyond his career, Gary was an avid reader, immersing himself in countless books that broadened his horizons and deepened his understanding of the world. His inquisitive nature also led him to develop a passion for vexillology, the study of flags, which he enthusiastically pursued through his extensive collection. This hobby not only reflected his appreciation for history and culture but also his keen eye for detail and aesthetics.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife, Betty Ruth Rivers Hofele; sister, Bonigail Hofele.
He is survived by; son and daughter-in-law, Karl and Regina Hofele of Douglasville; daughter and son-in-law, Cheryl and Jeffery Titterington of Sun City Center, FL; grandchildren, Matthew (Karyssa) Arne, Justin (Kristen) Turney, Holly Carpenter, Chad (Ashley) Hall, Brandon (Montana) Hall, and Samuel (Lauren) Hall; seventeen great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.
In accordance with his wishes, he was cremated. The family will have a celebration of life service at a later date.
