George Edgar Branson of Douglasville, Georgia passed away at the age of 68 on June 27, 2017 at a Douglasville Rehabilitation facility after a long illness. He was born in Charleston, South Carolina on April 22, 1949 to Edgar Earl Branson and Evelyn Louise Harbison Branson. He is survived by his brother, Charles Branson of Douglasville, Georgia and his sister, Carol Moreland of Dexter, Missouri. He is also survived by nephews, Justin and Kenneth Moreland and a brother-in-law, Dale Moreland. George attended St. Johns High School on Johns Island SC, where he played football. He received his B.A in International Studies from the University of South Carolina and later joined the Peace Corps. He worked in Chad, Africa for the Peace Corps as a water well driller, and worked throughout Northwest Africa in water resources for VITA, Volunteers in Technical Assistance, and as a contract employee at USAID. He was fluent in French and spoke Chadian Arabic. He loved to read, especially Fantasy and Science Fiction. He was deeply concerned about social justice, and he was a passionate lover of animals and gardening. One of his favorite Chadian Arabic desert sayings was: âThanks to the chicken, the lizard drinks water.â He has quenched many a thirst during his generous life.
