Mrs. Geraldine Virginia McLendon Yancey, age 75, of Ridge Way, Douglasville, Georgia formerly of Union City passed away Tuesday, September 2, 2008 at Wellstar Douglas Hospital. She was born July 7, 1933 in Cedartown, Georgia the daughter of the late Mr. Ambrose McLendon and the late Mrs. Jessie Hopper McLendon. She married Edward Yancey on December 7, 1948. She resided in Union City for over 25 years. She was a homemaker and a member of Rebecca Baptist Church in Palmetto. She and her husband served as foster parents for over 35 years and had 20 foster children in their home. On December 19, 1999 they were featured in the Douglas County Sentinel for their many years of service to foster children in our area. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her brothers, William Guy McLendon and Wesley McLendon. She is survived by her husband, Edward Yancey of Douglasville; daughter, Crystal Yancey of Douglasville; son, Michael Yancey of Douglasville; brother and sisters-in-law, Douglas and Betty Jo McLendon of Douglasville, Jeanette McLendon of Temple and Evelyn McLendon of Adairsville and several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral Services will be conducted Thursday, September 4, 2008 at 2:00 PM from the Douglas Chapel of Jones-Wynn Funeral Home with Rev. Carl Adams and Rev. Johnny White officiating. Interment will follow at Holly Hill Memorial Park in Fairburn. Serving as pallbearers will be Ron McLendon, Randy McLendon, Rusty McLendon, Kenneth McLendon, Eddie Lattrell, and Ronny Colette. The family will receive friends at Jones-Wynn Funeral Home, Douglas Chapel Wednesday, September 3, 2008 from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM.
