Mr. Geston D. Holland, age 95, of Rome passed away Friday, July 22, 2011. He was born June 26, 1916 in Dallas, Georgia, the son of the late Mr. Henry Jesse Holland and the late Mrs. Fanny Carnes Holland. He married Era Edmondson on August 6, 1939. He served in the U. S. Army during World War II in the Pacific Theater operating a LCM Higgins boat and earning a Bronze Star. He was honorably discharged in January of 1946 with the rank of Technician Fifth Grade from Company âCâ 542nd Engineer Boat and Shore Regiment. Mr. Holland retired from Life of Georgia as an insurance salesman. He was a long time member of Narroway Baptist Church and the Rome Coin Club. He loved to collect coins, fish, hunt, trap and play golf. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 69 years, Era Inez Edmondson Holland on March 3, 2009; sons, David Holland and Patrick Holland; brothers, Woody Holland and Emory Holland; and sister, Betty Cole. He is survived by daughter and son-in-law, Peggy and Bob Moore of Rome; brother and sister-in-law, Guy and Mary Holland of Temple; six grandchildren and their spouses, Leigh and Bill DuPre of Atlanta, Rob and Susan Moore of Woodstock, Amy and Pete Bursi of Tucker, Shae and Rob Brown of Sylva, NC, Kelli Puckett of Sylva, NC, and Brian Holland of Sylva, NC; and ten great-grandchildren. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral Service will be conducted Thursday, July 28, 2011 at 3:00 PM at Narroway Baptist Church in Dallas with Rev. Todd Tibbetts officiating. Interment will follow at the Narroway Cemetery with military honors rendered by the U.S. Army Honor Guard. The following gentlemen will be serving as pallbearers. Rob Moore, Bill DuPre, Matthew Holland, Brian Holland, Rob Brown and Guy Holland. The family will receive friends at Narroway Baptist Church in Dallas, Thursday, July 28, 2011 from 2:00 PM until 3:00 PM.
