Glynn Rogers

Mr. Glynn H. Rogers, age 75, of Douglasville, Georgia, formerly of Inverness, FL passed away Monday, January 24, 2011 at Wellstar Tranquility Hospice following an extended illness. He was born November 18, 1935 in Tallahassee¸ FL, the son of the late Mr. John Clarence Rogers and the late Mrs. Zula Marrs Rogers. He married Phyllis Raye Touchton August 3, 1956 in Clearwater Florida. He served in the U.S marine Corp during the Korean Conflict where he served in the First Provisional DMZ Police Company. During his military service he served in the Marine Corp Honor Guard Division and the Silent Honor Guard. His life work was spent in the Air Conditioning Industry. He began his family owned business, Rogers Heating and Air Conditioning, in 1962 in Clearwater FL. He served as Vice-President of the Clearwater JayCees and on the Board of Directors at Belmont Methodist Church. In 1970 he moved his family and business to Inverness Florida where he was actively involved in the community having been President of the Rotary Club, Charter Member of the Sertoma Club and Commander of VFW Post 4337 in Inverness. He loved his country and community and was involved with youth programs in Inverness. He was on the Citrus High School Future Farmers of America advisory board, Board of Director for Inverness Little League, a contributor to the Key Training Center and a charter member of the Citrus County Youth against Drugs. In 1985 he moved to Douglasville, GA and began The Rogers Company Mechanical Contractors and worked with his sons. In 1997 he joined the City of Marietta as a Mechanical Inspector with the Department of Development where he retired in 2004. Mr. Rogers was a member of Praise Tabernacle Congregational Methodist Church in Powder Springs, GA. He was a devoted family man and enjoyed spending time with his beloved wife and family. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his loving Grandmother Susie Elizabeth Lee Rogers and Brothers Reed Rogers, Charles Rogers and Jack Rogers. He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years Mrs. Phyllis Raye Touchton Rogers of Douglasville; sons and daughters-in-law, Mark Ray and Karen Rogers of Inverness, FL, Byron Curtis and Cindy Rogers of Villa Rica, Phillip Glynn and Rachel Rogers of Villa Rica, and Randy Lee and Kelley Rogers of Inverness, FL; sister Nell Atkinson of Douglas; seven grandchildren, Justin Ray Rogers, Dustin Curtis Rogers, Derek Dylan Rogers, Blake Brandon Rogers, Jerrett Lee Rogers, Danielle Nichole Rogers Astin, and Falon Raye Rogers; three great- grandchildren, Dylan Rogers, Bryson Rogers and Lola Rogers; 5 nieces and 5 nephews. Funeral services will be conducted at the Douglasville Chapel of Jones-Wynn Funeral Home at 11:00 AM on Thursday, January 27, 2011 with Rev. Tommy Chapman officiating. Interment will follow at Melrose Hills Memorial Park in Villa Rica with military honors rendered by the U.S. Marine Corp Honor Guard. The following will serve as pallbearers; Justin Ray Rogers, Dustin Curtis Rogers, Derek Dylan Rogers, Blake Brandon Rogers, Jerrett Lee Rogers, and Ellis Anthony Astin. Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Nikolas P. Symbas, Dick Short, Rayford Vick, Don Sells, Berry Burgin, Dale Stauffer, Doug Tyler and David Gilliland. The family will receive friends at Jones-Wynn Funeral Home Douglasville Chapel, Wednesday, January 26, 2011 from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM.
