Guy Washington Hembree left this world peacefully with his family gathered around him, Sunday, March 22, 2009. Guy was born July 29, 1916 in Douglas County, Georgia. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Reba Warren Hembree; his parents, Allie Couch Hembree and James Oscar Hembree; his brothers, Ruell, Raford, Virlyn, Lawrence and Ralph Hembree; and his sister, Ozelle Hembree Waldrop. Guy was a World War II veteran and was proud of his service for his country. He was in the Army and was stationed at Pearl Harbor during the Japanese attack. Upon his honorable discharge from the Army, he moved to Atlanta where he worked as an elevator operator at the Hurt Building. While working here, he met his wife of 62 years, the late Reba Warren Hembree. In 1957, Guy and his family moved back to Douglas County. He worked for International Harvester Company and retired after 30 years. Guy and his wife were foster parents to a lot of children. He was a family man who loved his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ and raised his family by Christian teaching and by example. Guy was also an active member of Flat Rock Baptist Church until he was no longer able to attend. Guy is survived by brothers, Fred and Hugh Dorsey Hembree and sister, Mildred Hembree Boyd, all of Villa Rica; his daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Envard Mayfield of Buchanan; his son and daughter-in-law, Dan and Trini Hembree of Villa Rica; his daughter and son-in-law, Becky and Tommy Roberts of Blackshear; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, March 25, 2009 at 2:00PM from the Chapel of Jones-Wynn Funeral Home in Villa Rica with Rev. Ronnie Puckett, Dr. Jerry Brown and Rev. Benny Waldrop officiating. Serving as pallbearers will be Dallas Mayfield, Spencer Hembree, Larry Hembree, Mike Hembree, David Hembree, and Tim Hembree. Interment will follow at Glenn Memorial Park in Villa Rica, Georgia. The family will receive friends at Jones-Wynn Funeral Home in Villa Rica on Tuesday, March 24, 2009 from 3:00PM until 5:00PM and from 6:00PM until 9:00PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Building Fund, Flat Rock Baptist Church, 961 Flat Rock Road, Villa Rica, Georgia 30180 or to Tanner Hospice of Carrollton, 710 Dixie Street, Carrollton, Georgia 30117.
