Mr. Harold Edward Nixon, 84, of Carrollton, Georgia passed away Saturday, May 3, 2014. He was born June 12, 1929 in Carrollton, Georgia the son of the late Mr. Cliff Hopson Nixon and the late Gertrude Lillian Patterson Nixon. He married Sara Margaret Turner on October 21, 1949 in Carrollton, Georgia. He worked as a mechanic for the Atlanta Army Depot for 23 years. He then worked for Southwire and retired in 1991 with 14 years of service. He was fondly referred to as the âMayor of Hickory Levelâ. He enjoyed planting his huge garden and watching it grow. As his health declined and he was no longer able to plant, his best friend, Wayne Bivins, would plant and harvest his garden for him and he would ride along in his golf cart to âsuperviseâ. He was also an avid armchair NASCAR fan. He loved his family and especially loved interacting with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Charles Nixon and Guilliam Nixon and his sister, Robie Nixon Baskin. He is survived by his wife, Margaret Turner Nixon of Carrollton; daughter and son-in-law, Lynn and Dan Broome of Carrollton; daughter, Joyce Nixon of Carrollton; son and daughter-in-law, Eddie and Terri Nixon of Carrollton; brother and sister-in-law, Jerrell and Mildred Nixon of Carrollton; sister, Jane Nixon of Lithia Springs; sister and brother-in-law, Sherry and Harold Castona of Douglasville; sisters-in-law, Linda Nixon of Lithia Springs and Ora Lee Taylor of Douglasville; six grandchildren, Patrick and Jill Broome of Panama City Beach, Florida, Brandon and Polly Wells of Villa Rica, Terri and Jay Johnston of Buchanan, Hunter Nixon, Beau Nixon and Cade Nixon of Carrollton; sixteen great grandchildren, Blake Broome, Chase Broome, Bonnie Phillips, Welsey and Casey Pavlicek, Ally Pavlicek, Mikayla Wells, Brianna Wells, Parker Wells, Addie Wells, Kelton Estep, Brandon Johnston, Chandler Estep, Cheylin Estep, Jessica Adkison, Sarah Johnston, and Michael Johnston; 8 great-great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends at Jones-Wynn Funeral Home in Villa Rica, Monday, May 5, 2014 from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM. Funeral Services will be conducted Tuesday, May 6, 2014 at 3:00 PM at Concord United Methodist Church in Carrollton with Rev. Michael Lowery and Dr. Robert Brown officiating. Musical selections will be provided by Denise Brown and Polly Wells. Interment will follow at the Concord Cemetery. The following will serve as pallbearers: Hunter Nixon, Brandon Wells, Jay Johnston, Patrick Broome, Rodney Baskin, Randy Baskin, Vince Huff and Troy Nixon. Honorary pallbearers will be Beau Nixon, Cade Nixon, Kelton Estep, Brandon Johnston, Blake Broome, Chase Broome and Parker Wells.
