Mr. Harold Dean “Shorty” Petty, Sr., age 89, of Lithia Springs, Georgia passed away Wednesday, July 18, 2012. He was born July 5, 1923 in Paulding County, Georgia the son of the late Mr. Snowdy Guy Petty and the late Mrs. Louella Scroggins Petty. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He retired from Lockheed-Martin where he worked in airframe construction and tool repair. He was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Gladys Pendley Petty; an infant daughter; sister, Mattie Morris and brothers, James Ernest Petty, and Thomas “Gene” Petty. He is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Judy and Millard Shaw of Lithia Springs; one son and daughter-in-law, Harold Dean Jr. and Diane Petty of Lithia Springs; three sisters, U.V. Smith of Powder Springs, Winnie Hunter of Powder Springs, and Bobbie Jean Grantham of Villa Rica; one brother, Linnie Petty of Powder Springs; three grandchildren and their spouses, Dennis and Elaine Shaw, Jennifer and C.J. Zachmeyer, and Gary and Betsy Hammond; eight great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews also survive. The family will receive friends at Jones-Wynn Funeral Home, Douglas Chapel Friday, July 20, 2012 from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM. Funeral Services will be conducted Saturday, July 21, 2012 at 11:00 AM from Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, 2433 Brownsville Road, Powder Springs, Georgia with Rev. Lamar Rackley and Rev. Lee Lawrence officiating. Interment will follow at Pleasant Hill Cemetery. Messages of condolence may be sent to the family at www.jones-wynn.com.
