Mr. Herbert Lee Franklin, age 68, of Villa Rica, passed away Sunday, October 6, 2024. He was born June 2, 1956 in Staten Island, NY to the late Mr. Lawrence Franklin and the late Mrs. Marjorie Franklin.
Herb was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. His unconditional love and devotion to his family will always be remembered. Herb embraced the adventures that life offered him. He found joy in camping, hunting, riding motorcycles, but most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family.
With an unwavering commitment to scuba diving, Herb dedicated a significant portion of his life to teaching others the art and skill of diving. He shared this passion tirelessly, conducting night dives and cave dives. His expertise in swift water rescue spoke volumes about his dedication to safety and service, and his role as commander for the Douglas County Search and Rescue demonstrated his unwavering commitment to helping others in their times of need. Herb’s passion for life and his commitment to teaching and rescuing will remain etched in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to cross paths with him.
In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his son, Michael Alcarez; brothers, Rusty Franklin and Donald Franklin.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Joyce Ann Franklin; daughter, Danielle (Brian) Griffin of Villa Rica; son, Mark (Jodi) Alcarez of Villa Rica; brother in law and sister in law, Donald (Penny) Camp of Villa Rica; brother in law, Johnny Fernander of Villa Rica; sisters, Kathy Champoux of South Carolina, Roberta (Jim) Hinson of Nevada, Joyce (Raymond) Ropiak of New York, Gaye Hankla of Florida; brothers, Gary (Patti) Richards of New York, Brad (Tara) Richards of Alabama, Cliff Richards of Florida; grandchildren, Hunter Alcarez, Landon Alcarez, Caleb Griffin; and numerous nieces and nephews also survive.

The family will receive friends at Jones-Wynn Funeral Home in Douglasville on Saturday, October 12, 2024 from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM. The memorial service will follow at 2:00 PM with Rev. Jeff Childers officiating.
