Herman Levoyd Powell

Sergeant First Class (SFC) Herman Levoyd Powell (retired), age 66, of Douglasville, Georgia passed away Tuesday, August 14, 2007 at Wellstar Cobb Hospital. A native of Dalton, Georgia, he was born March 17, 1941 the son of the late Herman A. Powell and Velvie Jewel Thomas Powell Hudgens. Herman had been stationed in Bersnate Germany, Vietnam, Augsburg, Germany; Fort Huachuca, Arizona, Fort Greeley, Alaska and then retired to Douglasville, Georgia. He married Brenda Anderson on August 11, 1971 in Dahlonega, Georgia. Herman was a member of the Midway Baptist Church in Dalton, Georgia. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Martha Faye Alden of Riverside, CA and his brothers, Sammy Joe Powell and R.L. Powell. He is survived by his loving wife of 36 years, Brenda Anderson Powell of Douglasville; two sons and daughter-in-law, Ronnie Powell of Dalton and Michael and Sheila Powell of Dalton; four sisters, June Rogers of Calhoun, Joyce Rogers of Dalton, Sara Ruth Winkler of Chatsworth and Sue Powell of Dalton; one brother, Crawford Powell of Tunnel Hill; 5 grandchildren; a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins who will dearly miss him. Funeral Services will be conducted Saturday, August 18, 2007 at 11:00 AM from the Douglas Chapel of Jones-Wynn Funeral Home with Rev. Johnny Ellis officiating. Interment will follow in the Veteran Park at Sunrise Memorial Gardens with military honors rendered by the Ft. McPherson Honor Guard.
