Hilda Jane Weathington, 81, of Douglasville, Georgia, passed away at home on Thursday, July 16, 2026. She was born on September 27, 1944 in Villa Rica, Georgia to the late Maris Chatham Richardson and Hill Richardson. Fondly remembered by all who knew her, Hilda’s long and fruitful life was marked by her love for family, community, and her passions.
Known affectionately as “Grammy,” Hilda was a woman of strength, independence, and leadership. She brought these qualities into every aspect of her life. For more than eight years, Hilda became known in her community as a wedding cake maker. Her skills in the kitchen were refined by bakers who had worked with the royal family—an honor she treasured and a testament to her dedication to baking.
Hilda was also an avid gardener, with a particular fondness for lilies, and she found great peace and satisfaction in nurturing her plants. Her love for sewing and quilting was also well-known, and she loved sharing her knowledge with others, passing along her talents with generosity and love.
Her deep faith was evident in her involvement with the Precept Ministries, where her Bible study group brought her immense joy and spiritual connection. Among her proudest spiritual accomplishments was her involvement with “Walk to Emmaus,” a 72-hour ministry retreat that profoundly enriched her personal journey with Christ. She was also a member of West Ridge Church.
Hilda’s world revolved around her family, for whom her love knew no bounds. Her warmth, guidance, and unconditional support remain cherished gifts, forever treasured by those she touched. Always strong-willed yet compassionate, Hilda was both a pillar and a guiding light: her legacy endures not just in her remarkable achievements, but in the countless lives she influenced as a mother, grandmother, friend, and mentor.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her brother, Edwin Richardson.
She is survived by her loving husband of over 63 years, Mr. Fred Weathington; sons and daughters-in-law, Brad (Allison) Weathington, Phillip (Kimberly) Weathington and Stacy (Lisa) Weathington; sister and brother-in-law, Anna (Bennie) Evans; brother and sister-in-law, David (Gayle) Richardson; sister-in-law, Rose Richardson; 7 grandchildren, Chloe (Andrew), Grant, Parker, Maya (Caleb), Kayla (Trevor), Brianna (Kyle) and Brandon; as well as one great grandson, Isaac.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, July 18, 2026, from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Jones-Wynn Funeral Home - Douglas Chapel with funeral services to follow at 12:00 PM. She will be laid to rest at Mozley Memorial Gardens, 3180 S Sweetwater Rd, Lithia Springs, GA 30122.
