Mr. Hugh Worthy, Jr., 82, of Post Road, Winston, Georgia passed away Tuesday, July 26, 2006 at Tanner Medical Center in Carrollton. He was born March 24, 1924 in DeKalb County, Georgia the son of the late Mr. Hugh Worthy, Sr. and the late Mrs. Lucile Swink Wooten. He served in the U.S. Air Force during WWII in the 321st Glider Field Artillery Battalion, 101st Airborne and was in the Battle of the Budge when they were surrounded by the Germans. He was wounded at Bastogne on January 10, 1945. He received the Purple Heart, Bronze Star, and three Battle Stars. He married Edna C. Tyson on March 26, 1949 in DeKalb County, Georgia. He retired from Ford Motor Company in 1975 following 21 years of service, due to a hunting accident. He was a member of Ephesus Baptist Church where he served as an usher. He was a member of the American Legion Post #45. He enjoyed hunting especially with his birddogs and has a special interest in Quail Hunting. He was an outdoorsman who also enjoyed fishing. He is preceded in death by his mother, Lucile Wooten; father, Hugh Worthy, Sr.; and grandparents, Harry and Maude Swink. He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Edna Tyson Worthy of Winston; one brother and sister-in-law, Harold and Joan Todd of Cumming; his aunt, Betty Jernigan of Columbus; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Donald and Rachel Tyson of Winston, Ronald and Miriam Tyson of Villa Rica, Mary and Fred Hembree of Villa Rica, and Lora Tyson of Decatur; several nieces, nephews, cousins, great-nieces and great-nephews also survive. He had many âadoptedâ friends and children who were very important to him. Funeral Services will be conducted Saturday, July 29, 2006 at 11:00 AM from Ephesus Baptist Church with Dr. Billy Godwin officiating. He will lie in state at the church from 10:00 AM until the funeral hour. Interment will follow at Ephesus Cemetery with the following serving as pallbearers: Harold Parr, Corey Parr, Calvin Phillips, David Hembree, Merrill Folsom, and Jim Brittain. Full Military Honors will be rendered by the U.S. Air Force Honor Guard.
