Ida Marie Epps, age 85, a beloved mother and grandmother, departed this world on December 20, 2024. She was born on February 2, 1939, in Gainesville, Florida, to the late Mr. Roy Epps and the late Mrs. Inez Maxwell Epps.
Ida’s journey through life was infused with a spirit of joy, creativity, and dedication to others. She came to New York in the late 50s and worked behind the scenes at a movie studio in New York with celebrities such as Kirk Douglas, Ryan O’Neal, Ozzy Davis, and Ruby Dee, just to name a few. A remarkable career defined Ida's life, where she not only shone as a beautician but also took pride in teaching the art of beauty to countless individuals. Her passion for the theatre industry led her to become the first theatre party specialist in Harlem, New York, where she skillfully coordinated Broadway events during the golden era of the 1970s. Her boundless enthusiasm and commitment further extended into her role as a counselor and minister at Christ Community United Church in New York City, where she nurtured souls and offered guidance to those seeking solace.
Ida's vibrant and vivacious personality lit up every room she entered. Known for her ability to host gatherings, she was a great cook, an even better host and she loved organizing tea parties that brought laughter and joy into her gatherings. Whether it was a festive celebration or a quiet afternoon gathering, Ida made every occasion feel special. Music was another passion of hers, filling her life with rhythm and connection. Every note seemed to reflect her joyful spirit.
Among her proudest accomplishments was her visit to the White House, a testament to her influence and involvement in the community. She actively engaged with the New York City Mayor, showcasing her passion for making a difference and uplifting those around her. Her efforts were a reflection of her commitment to service, showing that she was not only a professional but a devoted advocate for her community.
In addition to her parents, Ida is preceded in death by her son, Calvin Shade.
She is survived by her daughter, Kim Williams (Kierone Williams); grandchildren, Courtney Blalock, and Melissa Shade; sisters, Hazel Johnson, and Delores Alford; brothers, Roy Epps, Jr., Ray Epps, and Lenard Epps; as well as a number of nieces, nephews and extended family members.
In accordance with her wishes, Ms. Ida Epps was cremated. A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, January 31, 2025 from 11:00 AM - 12:00 PM at Word of Faith Family Worship Cathedral (Chapel) in Austell, Georgia (212 Riverside Pkwy, Austell, GA 30168).
