Mr. Jack Donald Matthews, 83, of Carrollton-Villa Rica Highway, Villa Rica, Georgia passed away after an extended illness Saturday, July 29, 2006 at his residence. He was born December 15, 1922, in Villa Rica, Georgia. He was the son of the late Mr. Thomas Polk Matthews and the late Mrs. Ida Lorene Noles Matthews. Mr. Matthews was a lifelong resident of Carroll County. He was a graduate of Villa Rica High School and attended Aircraft Technical School in Tennessee. He enlisted in the United States Navy in 1943. Mr. Matthews retired in June, 1979 after 34 years of service from the United States Postal Service as a rural carrier having worked at the Atlanta Post Office at the Airfield and Downtown locations and the Villa Rica Post Office, Rural Route #1. Mr. Matthews was a member of Midway Macedonia Baptist Church. He was also a member of the American Legion and the National Association of Retired Federal Employess. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Roy T. Matthews and his sister-in-law, Ruth Matthews. Survivors include his wife of 63 plus years, Mrs. Helen Wallis Matthews of Villa Rica; his daughters and son-in-law, Julia and Dale Raysden of Carrollton and Ellen M. Kirk of Villa Rica; his sons and daughter-in-law, Roger Matthews of Hiram and Jeff and Brenda Matthews of Carrollton; 8 grandchildren and their spouses, Karen and Tim Johnson of Jackson, Sandra and Brian Butler of Powder Springs, Dr. Jody Matthews of Villa Rica, Sharon and Gary Walls of Villa Rica, Jason Matthews of Villa Rica, Amanda and Brad Bilbo of Villa Rica, Leah and Michael Johnson of Carrollton and Jeb Matthews of Carrollton; 9 great-grandchildren; one niece, Jane Matthews Conway of Atlanta and one nephew, Tommy Matthews of Villa Rica also survive. Funeral services will be conducted on Monday, July 31, 2006 at 11:00 AM from the Chapel of Jones-Wynn Funeral Home in Villa Rica with Rev.W. O. Wallis officiating. Serving as pallbearers will be Jody Matthews, Jason Matthews, Jeb Matthews, Gary Walls, Brad Bilbo and Michael Johnson. Honorary pallbearers will be Tim Johnson and Brian Butler. Interment will follow in the Matthew Lot at Hillcrest Cemetery in Villa Rica, Georgia.
