Jackie Leathers Richardson

Feb 8, 1943 — May 28, 2026

Villa Rica

Jackie Leathers Richardson, 83, of Villa Rica, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Thursday, May 28, 2026. She was born on February 8, 1943, the daughter of the late Harold Leathers and the late Evelyn DeFoor Leathers.

She was a woman of remarkable dedication and generosity, whose life was marked by a quiet yet unwavering commitment to her family, her work, her craft, and the community she touched. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Villa Rica for many years, where she became a devoted member of the Sunshine Life Group, where she faithfully served as Class Secretary for many years. Jackie also designed and hand-painted the cover of the class handbook year after year. The handbook became her trademark, beautifully reflecting the traditions, spirit and fellowship of the Sunshine Life Group.

In her younger years, Jackie pursued a career as a beautician. However, her entrepreneurial spirit soon led her to a new chapter. Harold and Evelyn founded Leathers Truck Stop in the early 1960's on Highway 78. The business operated its original location until Interstate 20 was completed into Alabama. By that time, Jackie and Franklin had assumed ownership of the family business. Under their leadership and vision, Jackie and Franklin, Leathers Truck Stop entered a new era. Together they developed a modern more efficient truck center at the Liberty Road/Mirror Lake exit, expanding the operation and continuing the family tradition of serving travelers with excellence and hospitality for nearly four decades. She was always working diligently without ever seeking credit or recognition.

Beyond her business endeavors, Jackie was an artist at heart. She showcased her artistic talents through the thoughtful decoration and design in homes and businesses in the area, leaving behind a legacy of creativity that enhanced the places she touched. Many lucky newlyweds began their lives together with a beautifully hand-painted wedding gift created by Jackie. Many young parents also welcomed their newborns with an original hand-painted baby gift from her talented hands. Jackie's artistic abilities were a gift from God, and she generously shared those gifts with others, leaving a lasting touch on countless lives and treasured memoires. Her generosity extended beyond material gifts; it was her willingness to give selflessly in all areas of her life that defined her character.

Jackie leaves behind a legacy of quiet strength, inspiring many by her example of devotion, humility, and artistry. Though she preferred to remain out of the spotlight, her impact will be deeply felt by those who were fortunate enough to know her and experience her kindness.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Franklin Harold Richardson.

She is survived by her children, Tant Richardson of Wedowee, Alabama, and Toby and Windy Richardson of Villa Rica; sisters-in-law, Margarett Morris, Pat Richardson; several nieces and nephews; cousins that were close as siblings.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, May 31, 2026 at First Baptist Church Villa Rica from 2:00 PM until 4:00 PM with funeral services conducted at 4:00 PM with Dr. Billy Godwin officiating. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery in Villa Rica.
