Mr. James Burton Shirah, 86, of Harmony Road, Temple, Georgia passed away Sunday, January 1, 2006 at his residence following an extended illness. He was born November 13, 1919, in Paulding County, Georgia. He was the son of the late Nathan Russell Shirah and the late Oda Adcock Shirah. Mr. Shirah was a member of Concord Baptist Church in Villa Rica, Georgia. He was a veteran of the United States Army having served during World War II. Mr. Shirah was a retired dairy farmer. He was a former member of the Paulding County Board of Education and served many years as a member of the Soil Conservation Committee. In addition to his parents, Mr. Shirah was preceded in death by his wife, Mrs. Dorothy Newman Shirah; his granddaughter, Jana Harris; and his sister, Dennis Shirah. Survivors include daughters and sons-in law, Charolette and Tom Steed of Marietta and Dixie and David Mooney of Dallas; 5 grandchildren, Harris and Jayne Morris of Atlanta, Jaime Harris of Dallas, Angela Mooney of Cartersville, Tommy and Bennea Steed of Marietta and Richard and Leigh Steed of Powder Springs; 6 great-grandchildren, Will Morris of Atlanta, Elle Morris of Atlanta, Trey Steed of Marietta, Sara Steed of Marietta, Maisie Steed of Powder Springs and Kendall Steed of Powder Springs; and several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday, January 4, 2006 at 3:00 PM from the Chapel of Jones-Wynn Funeral Home in Villa Rica with Rev. Don Rackley officiating. Pallbearers will be Donnie Newman, Guy Holland, Richard Rogers, Scott Stevens, Jerry Smith, Richard Steed and Tommy Steed. Entombment with military honors will follow at Concord Baptist Cemetery in Villa Rica, Georgia. The family will be receiving friends at Jones-Wynn Funeral Home in Villa Rica, Tuesday, Janaury 3, 2006, from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM and Wednesday, January 4, 2006 from 12:00 Noon until the funeral hour.
