James D. "Dan" Overholt

Mr. James D. “Dan” Overholt, 78, of Douglasville, Georgia passed away Wednesday, April 18, 2007, at Wellstar Douglas Hospital in Douglasville, Georgia. He was born November 19, 1928 in Wichita, Kansas. He was the son of the late Mr. Elmer Overholt and the late Mrs. Iyla Daniels Overholt. Mr. Overholt spent most of his years in the wholesale and retail music industry in Kansas, Missouri, Nevada, and Georgia. He began playing the trumpet in middle school and played professionally most of his adult life. He played with many well known and renowned music legends, including Henry Mancini, Andy Williams, and the Warren Durrett Orchestra. He also played the trumpet for the Mt. Paran Church of God Orchestra and received the award for Orchestra Member of the Year. For the past four years he played with the “Swingin’ Ol’ Dudes” here in Douglas County, who are former professional musicians. In addition to his parents, Mr. Overholt was preceded in death by two brothers, Charles Overholt and Robert “Bob” Overholt. Survivors include his wife, Marilyn Dean Overholt; daughter and son in-law, Stephanie and Barry Strickland of Douglasville, granddaughter, Emily Strickland, and niece, Janet Lytal of California and her two children, Tucker and Kelli. Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, April 21, 2007 at 2:00PM from the Chapel of Jones-Wynn Funeral Home in Douglasville, Georgia with Pastor John Barrett officiating and Fred Wallace delivering the eulogy. Interment will follow in Carrollton City Cemetery. The family will be receiving friends in the Chapel of Jones-Wynn Funeral Home in Douglasville, Friday, April 20, 2007 from 6:00 PM until 9:00 PM.
