Mr. James S. âJimâ Fletcher, age 95, a 42-year resident of Austell, Georgia passed away Monday, October 13, 2014. He was born March 30, 1919 in Abbeville, Alabama, the son of the late Mr. William Abner Fletcher and the late Mrs. Lula Jane Money Fletcher. He moved to Atlanta as a teen. He was a World War II veteran, having served in the United States Army as an Army Ranger with the OSS. He served in the China, Burma, India theater of World War II. He settled in Atlanta and eventually moved to Austell in â69-â70. He retired from Southern Bell Company having worked for 35 years. Jim was organizer and first Commander of the China Burma India Veteransâ Association â Atlanta Basha. He served the CBIVA at its national level as National Junior Vice Commander â Southeast, as National Historian, and on many national CBIVA committees. Jim also served locally as the Atlanta Basha Historian and a second term as Commander of the Atlanta Basha. He authored and self-published a book on his experiences in World War II, The Secret War of Burma, in its 3rd printing. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Jeanelle Maddox Fletcher; sister, Annie Laura Fletcher Melvin; and brothers, Robert Fletcher and Joseph Albert Fletcher. He is survived by son, Don and Elaine Fletcher, Greenville, NC; daughters, Alicia and Phil Schillinger, Carrollton, GA; Denise and Brad Taylor, Winston, GA; granddaughters, Mindy & Matt McDonald, Douglasville, GA, Kelley & Scott Davis, Winterville, NC; grandsons, Chad & Lisa Schillinger, Winston, GA, Adam Taylor, Winston, GA; Eric Taylor, Winston, GA; great-grandchildren, Riley and Reese Davis, Emily and Ethan McDonald, Payton and Hayden Schillinger; special friend, Fran Golson, Stone Mountain, GA, several nieces, nephews, and cousins. The family will receive friends at Jones-Wynn Funeral Home in Douglasville, Wednesday, October 15, 2014 from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM and Thursday, October 16, 2014 from 10:30 AM until 11:30 AM. Graveside Services will be conducted Thursday, October 16, 2014 at 12:00 PM at Rosehaven Cemetery in Douglasville with Rev. James Harper officiating.
