James Glenn Hatcher

November 30, 1921 — October 7, 2009

Mr. James Glenn Hatcher, age 87, of Douglasville, Georgia passed away Wednesday, October 7, 2009 at Wellstar Douglas Hospital. A native of Douglas County, he was born November 30, 1921 the son of the late Mr. James Hatcher and the late Mrs. Della Baker Hatcher. He served in the U.S. Marine Corp as a Corporal during World War II. He married Doris Thomas on October 3, 1945. He was a Charter Member of the First Presbyterian Church of Douglasville where he served as Clerk of Session for 10 years. He loved the Lord with all his heart. He loved southern gospel music. He retired as a Fleet Manager from Southern Bell after 46 years of service. He was an excellent mechanic who enjoyed using his skills on cars that he bought and sold. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Doris Thomas Hatcher on January 17, 2007; and by his brothers and sisters. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, James Kenneth Hatcher and Denise Adams of Douglasville. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral Services will be conducted Friday, October 9, 2009 at 11:00 AM from the First Presbyterian Church of Douglasville with Rev. Sandra Fox and Rev. James Harper officiating. He will lie in state at the church from 10:30 AM until the funeral hour. Interment will follow at Sunrise Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at Jones-Wynn Funeral Home, Douglas Chapel, Thursday, October 8, 2009 from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM.
