James Marion Hall, 83, of Douglasville, Georgia, passed away on Wednesday, January 8, 2025. He was born on December 1, 1941, at Grady Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia. He was the son of the late Charlie Hall and Mary Ruth Turner Hall. James lived a life filled with passion and commitment, both in his personal interests and professional endeavors.
Sergeant James Hall served in the Army in the 277 Maintenance Division and served in Desert Storm. His devotion to service extended beyond the military, as he worked as a carpenter, painter and welder and also dedicated many hours to various hobbies such as woodworking, coin collecting and puzzle building.
James had a diverse array of interests that depicted him. He was a fan of Elvis Presley. He shared an interest in antiques with his wife, Janice. He also had an appreciation for history, wrestling, fishing, horseshoes, fireworks and many other hobbies. He enjoyed watching his grandchildren play sports and enjoyed classic cars. He even briefly raced at 7 Flags Raceway.
In addition to his hobbies, James found great pleasure in his koi and goldfish pond; he was also an avid builder of birdhouses. James loved his family, friends and beloved chihuahua, "Pooch", who brought him so much comfort and joy. As we remember James Marion Hall, we honor the dedication he exhibited throughout his life and the many ways he touched the lives of those around him.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Janice Irene Green Hall; sisters, Martha Sorrels and Marguarett Merritt.
He is survived by his daughters and sons-in-law, Jeanette (Ryan) Hooker of Douglasville, GA, and Kim (Steve) Jochum of Bowdon, GA; sisters, Mary Cranford of Marietta, GA, and Ruby Lamp of New Hope, GA; brother, Charles Robert Hall of Lyons, GA; grandchildren, James (Lisa) Hooker of Heflin, AL, Derek (Brittney) Hooker of Cartersville, GA, and Taylor Jochum of Bowdon, GA; great-grandchildren, Zakk Hooker, Jacob Hooker and Matthew Hooker of Heflin, GA, and Avanna Hooker of Cartersville, GA; as well as several nieces and nephews.
His legacy will live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing and loving him.
The family will receive friends from 4:00 PM – 8:00 PM on Sunday, January 12, 2025 and from 12:00 PM – 1:00 PM on Monday, January 13, 2025 at Jones-Wynn Funeral Home and Crematory Douglas Chapel. Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 PM on Monday, January 13, 2025 at the Douglas Chapel with interment to follow at Mozley Memorial Gardens in Lithia Springs, Georgia.
