James "Jimmy" Davis Hicks, a beloved husband, father, and cherished member of his community, passed away on Sunday, August 6, 2023. His departure leaves a profound void in the lives of those who had the privilege of knowing him. He was born on May 1, 1944, the son of the late Walter Davis Hicks and the late Ruby Lemon Hicks. Jimmy had a deep love for his family, his faith, and the open road. For many years, he worked as a dedicated truck driver, traversing vast distances with unwavering commitment.
In addition to his career, James had a variety of hobbies and interests that brought him immense joy. He treasured spending time with his family above all else. His presence was a beacon of comfort and support to those around him. Jimmy's love knew no bounds, and he created precious memories with each person lucky enough to be part of his life.
Jimmy's unwavering faith played an integral role in shaping who he was as an individual. He found solace within the walls of his church and actively participated in preaching. Jimmy's devotion to his spiritual journey served as an inspiration to others and left an indelible mark on the hearts of all who encountered him. Aside from his faith and family commitments, Jimmy had a knack for working on cars. Whether it was tinkering under the hood or lending a helping hand to friends and neighbors in need, he always displayed both skill and kindness in equal measure. Furthermore, Jimmy found solace in the beauty of nature and frequently embarked on sightseeing adventures, particularly trips to the mountains.
Jimmy was preceded in death by his loving wife Ida Beth Barnum Hicks; daughter Mary Jean Hicks; son James Hopkins Sr.; sisters Louise Ordorica, Ann Humpfleet, Pat Freeman, Sarah Ricketts, and Delores Pirkle; as well as granddaughter Tammy Hopkins Rinehart. The loss of these dear individuals deeply affected Jimmy throughout his life. He is survived by his wife Bonnie Cohran Hicks of Villa Rica, Georgia. Their bond was a shining example of love and unwavering support. Jimmy also leaves a legacy in his daughters: Penny Hopkins (Kevin) of Temple, Georgia, Tammy and Tracy Patterson of Villa Rica, Georgia; stepson and daughter-in-law Carl and Tammy Hopkins of Villa Rica, Georgia.
Jimmy's memory will forever live on through his sister, Dottie and Carlos Delcastillo of Trenton, Ohio; brother George Hicks of Florida; grandchildren Scott Hopkins of Dallas, Georgia, Jamie Stamps of Villa Rica, Georgia, James and Kelley Hopkins of Jasper, Georgia, Joshua Hicks of Bremen, Georgia, Jessica and Damon Smith of Douglasville, Georgia; Lori and Wesley Miller of Villa Rica, Georgia, Suzanne and Ryan Connell of Cedartown , Georgia; Austin Manning of Villa Rica ,Georgia; Seth Hopkins of Villa Rica ,Georgia; great-grandchildren David and Hannah Stamps ,Noah and Scarlett Hopkins, Olivia Smith, Wiley and Colt Miller, Ida and Titus Connell, Brent Rinehart, and Colby Rinehart, Trent Rinehart, and Arianna Hopkins will forever cherish the memories they created with their beloved grandfather; many nieces and nephews also survive

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, August 9, 2023 from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Jones-Wynn Funeral Home Villa Rica Chapel. Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday, August 10, 2023 at 11:00 AM from Jones-Wynn Funeral Home Villa Rica Chapel. Interment will follow at Meadowbrook Memory Gardens.
