James Minor Phipps

Mr. James Minor Phipps, 63, of Brookside Court, Villa Rica, Georgia passed away Tuesday, January 24, 2006 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia. He was born March 29, 1942, in Knox County, Kentucky. He was the son of the late A. L. Phipps and the late Kathleene Helton Phipps. Mr. Phipps was a member of the First Baptist Church of Villa Rica, where he served as usher and attended Fellowship Sunday School Class. He was a member of the Villa Rica Masonic Lodge #72 F&AM, the Grand Lodge of Georgia F&AM, the Cumberland Lodge #77 R&SM of Williamsburg, Kentucky, and the Williamsburg Commandery #50 of Williamsburg, Kentucky. Mr. Phipps was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Barbourville, Kentucky Chapter #411 where he had served as Past Worthy Patron. He was also a member of the Alpha Delta Kappa Association In addition to his parents, Mr. Phipps was preceded in death by his brothers, Leemon Phipps and Roman Phipps and his sister, Mary May Phipps. Survivors include his wife of 41 years, Mrs. Bonnie Louise Philpot Phipps of Villa Rica; his sons, James Jerry “J. J.” Phipps of Villa Rica and Edward “Eddie” A. Phipps of Maryville, Tennessee; his sisters and brothers-in-law, Truleen and Larry Morgan of St. Petersburg, Florida, Louella Hampton of Zephyrhills, Florida, Donna Leach of Corbin, Kentucky, Melinda and Terry Southerland of Barbourville, Kentucky; brothers, Codell Phipps of Columbia, Kentucky, Ray Phipps of Barbourville, Kentucky, Bolin and Marsha Phipps of Kennesaw, John Wayne Phipps of Barbourville, Kentucky and Bill and Lois Phipps of Corbin, Kentucky; 2 grandchildren, Marshal James Phipps and Jayla Rebecca Phipps, both of Villa Rica; and several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services will be conducted with Masonic Rites on Wednesday, January 25, 2006 at 7:30 PM from the Chapel of Jones-Wynn Funeral Home in Villa Rica with Dr. J. B. Marlow officiating. The family will be receiving friends at Jones-Wynn Funeral Home in Villa Rica, Wednesday, January 25, 2006, from 6:00 PM until 7:30 PM. Interment will be conducted in the Phipps Family Cemetery in Barbourville, Kentucky following funeral service on Friday, January 27, 2006 at 11:00AM from the Chapel of Knox Funeral Home in Barbourville, Kentucky. The family will be receiving friends at Knox Funeral Home in Barbourville, Kentucky on Thursday, January 26, 2006 from 7:00 PM until 8:00 PM. Those desiring to do so may make contributions in memory of Mr. James M. Phipps to the First Baptist Church of Villa Rica, Building Fund, 1483 Highway 78W, Villa Rica, Georgia 30180 or the Villa Rica Masonic Lodge #72 F&AM, ATTN: James Nichols, 2245 Rockmart Road, Villa Rica, Georgia 30180.
