James William “Bill” Newman, 93, of Douglasville, passed away on Friday, June 19, 2026. He was born on May 14,1933, the son of the late Hershel Newman and Ruby Waldrop.
Throughout a remarkable career spanning over three decades, Bill worked diligently in the Federal Government, contributing his skills, knowledge, and steadfast work ethic to the betterment of public service. His impactful career included significant roles, such as Director of Education with the Federal Aviation Administration and the distinguished honor of serving as a Lieutenant Colonel in the United States Air Force. These milestones reflect not only his commitment to leadership but also his passion for supporting and educating those around him.
Bill received his Master Degree in Business Administration from Colorado University. He obtained his Bachelors Degree from Georgia State University.
Bill was a man of many talents—he found great joy and fulfillment in music, particularly as a guitarist. His love for music was a constant throughout his life, enriching both his personal moments and the lives of those who heard him play.
Bill was of strong faith and taught Sunday School at Central Baptist Church in Douglasville, GA. When he was younger, he and his siblings attended Beulah Baptist Church in Douglasville, GA.
Above all his accomplishments, Bill was profoundly proud of his family. That pride defined him, shaping his actions and inspiring those who knew him to strive for the same unwavering devotion to their loved ones.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wives Martha Ellen Floyd and Eleanor Brook Newman; son Michael Brook; brothers, Robert Newman, Cecil Newman, HJ Newman, Bobby Newman, and Jim Newman; sisters: Denise McKown, June Wallace and Diane Newman; brother-in-law’s Samuel Floyd, Gene Floyd, J.B. Floyd, and Hank Floyd; sisters-in-laws Evelyn Seagraves and Frances Floyd.
He is survived by his daughter Kathy Stephenson of Dawsonville, GA; sons Thomas Newman of Mansfield, GA, and Tony Newman of Jackson, GA; daughter-in-law Beth Brook; grandchildren, Christopher Stephenson, Stacey Bailey (Adam), John Stephenson (Alanna), Ellen Gustufson, James Newman, Andrew Brook, Michelle Brice (Kylor) and Leighann Brook; great-grandchildren Isabelle Stephenson, Alex Stephenson, Preston Bailey, Trevor Bailey, Logan Stephenson, and Wendy Brice; sisters Carol Newman, Alice Newman, and Marie Cowart; brother Lewis Newman.
Visitation will be held on Friday, June 26, 2026 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Jones Wynn Funeral Home in Douglasville, GA. Services will follow at Jones-Wynn Funeral Home in Douglasville starting at 11:00 PM.
Interment will be held in Sunrise Memorial Garden in Douglasville, GA.
He will be remembered for his professional achievements, his artistic spirit, his abiding humor, and most importantly, for the deep-rooted love and pride he carried for his family.
