James T. "Tommie" Wallace, Sr.

Mr. James T. “Tommie” Wallace, Sr., 86, of Northside Drive, Carrollton, Georgia passed away Friday, September 16, 2005 at his residence. He was born April 27, 1919, in Birmingham, Alabama. He was the son of the late John W. Wallace and the late Merkie Lillie Hardy Wallace. Mr. Wallace was a member of Central Baptist Church. He was a veteran of the United States Army Air Force having served during World War II. Mr. Wallace was an over the road truck driver and retired from Gateway Transportation after 25 years service. In addition to his parents, Mr. Wallace was preceded in death by his wife Maggie Esther Meeks Wallace in 2001; his son, Donald Eugene Wallace; and his brother, Johnny Wallace. Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, James T. Wallace, Jr. and Donna Wallace of Douglasville; daughter and son-in-law, Wanda and Alvaro Gomez of Pembroke Pines, Florida; brother, Charlie Wallace of Carrollton; grandchildren, James T. Wallace, III, Angela Hayes, Troy Wallace, Stephen Wallace, Christopher Gomez and Stephanie Gomez; great-grandchildren, Jeremy Wallace, Craig Wallace, Josh Wallace, Justin Wallace, Mark Hayes and Rebecca Hayes; great-great grandchildren, Jessica Wallace and Audrey Wallace; several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services will be conducted on Monday, September 19, 2005 from Central Baptist Church in Douglasville, at 2:00 PM with Rev. Gary Eudy, Rev. Paul Mason and Rev. Charles Gibb officiating. Mr. Wallace will lie in state at the church, Monday, September 19, 2005 from 1:00 PM until the funeral hour. Interment will follow at Central Baptist Church Cemetery in Douglasville, Georgia. The family will be receiving friends at Jones-Wynn Funeral Home in Douglasville, Sunday, September 18, 2005, from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM Messages of condolence may be sent to the family at www.jones-wynn.com. Jones-Wynn Funeral Home of Douglasville is in charge of arrangements.
