Mrs. Janelle Duncan Wilkes, age 79, of Moultrie, formally of the Poplar Arbor Community, passed away, Tuesday, June 27, 2017. She was born January 21, 1938 in Mitchell County, GA, the daughter of the late Mr. Oscar Elias Sellers and the late Mrs. Nettie Freeman Sellers. She and her husband, J.E. Duncan owned and operated Duncan’s Grocery in Poplar Arbor from November of 1964 until November of 1986. Mrs. Wilkes retired from Colquitt County Board of Education after many years of service driving a school bus and working in the cafeteria. She was a long time member of Poplar Arbor Congregational Christian Church. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother.In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, J. E. Duncan who passed away October 19, 1986; second husband, David Franklin Wilkes who passed November 10, 2010; sister, Erlean Reynolds O’Coine; brother, James Eulket Sellers; granddaughter, Carrie Duncan Summerlin.She is survived by daughter and son-in-law, Sharon and Eddie Summerlin of Moultrie; son and daughter-in-law, Kenneth and Amy Duncan of Villa Rica; seven grandchildren, Melissia Bennett, B. J. Nevels, Calvin and Jessica Summerlin, Haleigh Duncan, Cole and Katie Summerlin, Forrest Duncan, and Kara Duncan; two great grandchildren, Allie Glover and Paige Glover; several nieces and nephews also survive.The family will receive friends at Cobb Funeral Chapel, Thursday, June 29, 2017 from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM. Mrs. Wilkes will lie in state at the church from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM. Funeral Services will be conducted Friday, June 30, 2017 at 2:00 PM from Poplar Arbor Congregational Christian Church with Rev. Keith Marchant officiating. Piano music will be provided by Suzanne Rogers Williams. Interment will follow at Suncrest Memorial Gardens in Moultrie. The following gentleman will serve as pallbearers, B. J. Nevels, Calvin Summerlin, Cole Summerlin, Forrest Duncan, Tim Burnham, and Wally Hancock.Messages of condolence may be sent to the family at www.jones-wynn.com.
