Janet Schmersal Ledbetter, age 73, a beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, has gone to be with her Lord and Savior on January 12, 2025. She was born on February 23, 1951, in Nassau, New York, to the late Mr. George Schmersal and the late Mrs. Constance Fanelli Schmersal.
Janet was a beacon of light and love, characterized by her compassion for all living beings and her dedication to her family. For over 45 years, Janet devoted her life to caring for animals, rescuing a myriad of creatures, from squirrels to birds, dogs, and cats. Her nurturing spirit knew no bounds, as she created a safe haven not just for her furry friends but for all who crossed her path. Among her many beloved companions was her cherished Doberman, Sammy, who brought her endless joy.
Janet was more than just a talented Vet Tech; she was an avid Christian woman, full of life and enthusiasm. Her loving nature was complemented by her joyful hobbies; whether she was cooking up a storm in the kitchen or basking in the sun at the beach, Janet embraced each moment with gratitude. Her adventurous side revealed itself in her enthusiasm for motorcycles; as a devoted Harley Davidson fan, she felt the exhilaration of the open road and the freedom it provided.
Above all, Janet's proudest accomplishments were her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She truly believed in the strength of family and would move mountains to see her loved ones thrive. Her legacy carries the essence of a loving matriarch whose heart was as vast as the ocean she cherished.
Janet is survived by her son, Michael “Jeremy” Bryant; daughter, Jennifer (Mitchell) Barnes; sister, Donna Schmersal; grandchildren, Meghan, Lindsey, Macey and Ayden; great-grandchildren, Leilani, Cadence, Hendrix, Rose and Azalea; as well as extended family and friends.
In accordance with her wishes, Ms. Janet was cremated. Her family will hold a private celebration of life at a later date.
