Jerry Braswell, 77, of Villa Rica, passed away on Wednesday, March 12, 2025. He was born July 12, 1947 the son of the late George Willie Braswell and Mozell Annie Mae Causey Braswell.
Jerry loved his family and adored his girl. He never hesitated to express that love, ensuring they knew how much they meant to him. He was a man of unwavering principles. Jerry was kind and compassionate throughout his life. He was always willing to lend a helping hand. Music was the heartbeat of Jerry's existence. He spent his entire life picking and singing gospel music and country music, a passion that resonated deeply within him. Among his proudest accomplishments, Jerry was a member of The Grand Ole Opry for twenty plus year. He was inducted into the Atlanta Country Music Hall of Fame and the Douglas County Hall of Fame. In addition to his musical accolades, he was Worshipful Master of Douglasville Masonic Lodge #289 and a member of Battle Hill Masonic Lodge 523, further exemplifying his commitment to community and fellowship.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother, Rev. Terry Braswell; sister, Dorothy Jane Kidd.
He is survived by his wife Gloria Braswell; daughters, Renee (Dale) Choate of Grand Junction, Iowa, Rhonda (Mark) Stewart of Murfreesboro, Tennessee and Emily (Jim) Trotter of Columbus, Georgia; sister, Martha Ann (Harvey) Riggins of Dallas, Georgia; ten grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, March 16, 2025 at Jones-Wynn Funeral Home Douglas Chapel from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM and on Monday, March 17, 2025 from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM. Funeral services will be conducted on Monday, March 17, 2025 at 11:00 AM with Mr. Tim Atwood providing the eulogy and Rev. Terry Marbut officiating. Interment will follow at Sunrise Memorial Gardens.
The following will serve as pallbearers: A.J. La Rocco, Carter Stewart, Tyler Holt, Matt Holt, Dale Choate, and Mark Stewart.
Throughout his lifetime, Jerry remained steadfast in his beliefs, exemplifying integrity and strength of character. Jerry Braswell will be profoundly missed, but his spirit will live on in the hearts of those he touched through his music, kindness, and love.
