Jesse Vester Sheriff, Jr., 72, of Mableton, Georgia passed away Saturday, June 28, 2008 at Wellstar Cobb Hospital in Austell. Mr. Sheriff was born April 26, 1936 in Toccoa, Georgia; the son of the late Jesse Vester Sheriff, Sr. and Frances McFarlin Sheriff. Mr. Sheriff was an automotive salesman and also worked for Georgia Motor Escort. Mr. Sheriff was a member of the YAARB Shrine where he was involved in the Potentate Escort Unit and the Motor Corps Unit. He was a member of the American Legion Post No. 160 in Smyrna, he was of the Baptist faith and served his country in the National Guard. Mr. Sheriff was an active member of the Shrine AARB Temple for over forty years and was also a member of Lathan Masonic Lodge in Austell. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his son, Richard Dale Sheriff, and brother, Clinon Sheriff. Survivors include his loving wife, Peggy Sue Hallford Sheriff of Mableton to whom he married on December 24, 1955; son and daughter in-law, Jesse Vester, III and Amy Sheriff of Powder Springs; mother, Frances Sheriff of Toccoa; daughter in-law, Katherine Elaine Sheriff of Powder Springs; grandchildren, Katherine Dale Sheriff, Kimberly Geneva Sheriff, Richard Thomas Sheriff, Kelsey Sheriff, and Sydney Payne; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral Services will be conducted Tuesday, July 1, 2008 at 1:00 PM from First Baptist Church of Douglasville with Dr. John Pennington officiating. Mr. Sheriff will lie in state at the church from 12:30 PM until the service hour. Interment will follow at Meadowbrook Memory Gardens on Hickory Level Road in Villa Rica. The family will receive friends at Jones-Wynn Funeral Home in Douglasville on Sunday, June 29, 2008 from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM and Monday, June 30, 2008 from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM.
