Jessica Kayla Waters, age 31, passed away on Thursday, August 20, 2026. She was born on August 22, 1994 in Jacksonville, Florida to Mrs. Tammy Waters and Mr. Joe Vinson. Although born in Florida, for a majority of her life, she grew up in Douglasville, GA, attending elementary, middle, and high school there.
Jessica’s spirit shone brightest in the way she cared for others. As a homemaker, her nurturing heart extended far beyond the walls of her own home. After the deep loss of her only son, Charlie, Jessica’s capacity for love only grew. She poured herself into caring for other children, embracing them as her own and offering comfort and guidance whenever she could. Her devotion was never limited to people alone; she adored her beloved cats, Kirby and Princess.
Those who knew Jessica will always remember her as funny, goofy, and loving—a true animal lover with a heart of gold. Her strength was quiet but unwavering, and her caring nature touched countless lives. Adventure and curiosity fueled Jessica’s days. She loved to travel, always eager for experiences that would enrich her view of the world. From cheering at the Daytona 500 to taking in the sun at the beach or finding peace in the majesty of the Smoky Mountains, Jessica found happiness wherever she wandered.
Her passion for music led her to concerts, where she created memories filled with excitement and laughter. She was also a devoted fan of Mustang cars and automobiles in general. Jessica’s evenings were often spent engrossed in her favorite crime documentary shows like First 48, Forensic Files, and anything true crime, where her sharp mind appreciated the mysteries and stories she followed.
While Jessica’s journey was marked by immense challenges, she faced each one with courage and a loving spirit. Her legacy is the love she gave so freely—deep and steadfast, radiating warmth even in the darkest times.
Jessica is preceded in death by her beloved only child, Charles James "Charlie" Sears.
In addition to her parents, Jessica is survived by her loving sisters, Tiffany Waters, Bridget Waters, and Katlin Scott; maternal grandmother, Peggy Ryan; paternal grandmother, Patricia Vinson; fiancé, Darren Self; mother and father in love, Deborah and Mike “James” Self; father figure, Mitch Waters; long-time family friends, Sherri and John Sheldon and their daughter Ashley Garrett; best friends, Stephanie Bowlin, Courtney Hendrix, Shelby Wright, and Baylee Bryant; her paternal half-sister Amanda Leigh, her husband Andrew Leigh, and their kids Aiden Leigh and Audrina Leigh; as well as extended family & friends.
