Jimmie F. Long

Mr. Jimmie F. Long, age 65, of Villa Rica, Georgia passed away Thursday, December 4, 2008 at Tanner Medical Center in Villa Rica, Georgia. Mr. Long was born March 19, 1943, in Silver Creek, Georgia, the son of the late Mr. Lannie Lee Long and the late Mrs. Bessie Beatrice Battles Long. He retired from and worked as a manager for Georgia Power Electric Company and worked as an instructor for Georgia Transmission in Macon, Georgia. Mr. Long was a member of Fullerville Baptist Church in Villa Rica where he had served as deacon, building committee chairman, trustee and president of the choir and assistant Sunday school teacher, was a member of the Cobb County Chamber of Commerce and a loaned executive to United Way in Cobb County. He also served as an ambassador to the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta, was past president of the Paulding County Chamber of Commerce and the Paulding County Rotary Club, president for the Lions Club of Villa Rica and the Villa Rica High School Stadium Committee. In addition to his parents, Mr. Long was preceded in death by his brothers and sisters-in-law, J. C. and Helen Long and Floyd and Mary Long. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Penelope “Penney” Pittman-Long of Villa Rica; his daughter and her husband, Cissy Long-Boarman and Matt Boarman of Massillon, Ohio; his sons and daughter-in-law, Brian and Stephanie Long of Rockmart and Tommy Long of Douglasville; his sisters and brother-in-law, Opal and Bobby Moore of Silver Creek and Trish Long of Rome; his grandchildren, Kaitlyn Long, Zachary Long, Lindsay Long, Kristen Long, Nicholas Boarman, Jacob Boarman and Katie Boarman; and several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral Services will be conducted Sunday, December 7, 2008 at 2:00 PM from the Fullerville Baptist Church in Villa Rica with Rev. Steve Swafford officiating. Mr. Long will lie in state from 1:30 PM until the funeral hour at the church. Serving as pallbearers will be Zachary Long, Greg Motes, Michael Brown, David Pittman, Rob Platt, John Platt, Kirby Moore and Houston Long. Honorary pallbearers will be the deacons and the Young at Hearts from Fullerville Baptist Church, West Georgia Chapter of Georgia Power Ambassadors, Employees and Instructors from Georgia Transmission in Macon, Georgia, Tony Rooks and Nick Boarman. Interment will follow in Aragon Cemetery in Aragon, Georgia. The family will receive friends at Jones-Wynn Funeral Home in Villa Rica on Saturday, December 6, 2008 from 2:00 PM until 4:00 PM and from 6:00 PM until 9:00 PM.
