Mrs. Joan Henley Edenfield, age 66, of Douglasville, Georgia passed away Monday, August 23, 2010 at the Puerto Rico Medical Center in Rio Piedras, Puerto Rico. She was born September 30, 1943 in Pensacola, Florida, the daughter of the late Mr. Thomas Elbert Henley and the late Mrs. Evelyn Austin Henley. She was of the Methodist Faith. She and her sister, Anne owned and operated A & J Office Support Services. Over her career, she worked in administrative and office management positions in the insurance and business industry including positions at Paragon Benefits in Douglasville, J.L. Herring & Associates, Inc. in Savannah, Palmer & Cay/Carswell, Inc. in Savannah, Roper Outdoor Power Equipment Company in Savannah, The Hartford Group in Atlanta, and Kennesaw Life & Accident Insurance Company in Atlanta. Mrs. Edenfield loved the Douglas County community which showed in her service and volunteerism. She was a community advocate for fair tax laws and enjoyed being involved in the community. Mrs. Edenfield served on the Douglas County Board of Tax Assessors. She was currently serving as the Chairman of the Douglas County Tax Equalization Board. She served on the WellStar Douglas Regional Health Board. She was a recipient of the 2001 Volunteer of the Year award from the Douglas County Chamber of Commerce and she served on the Board of Directors of the Douglas County Chamber of Commerce from 2003-2005. During her service to the Douglas County Chamber, she served on the Douglas Blue Print Steering Committee, Local Policy Committee, State and Federal Government Committee, Small Business Committee and was the 2001 Chairman of the Business to Business Expo. She was a founding member and secretary of the Richmond Hill ABWA. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved daughter, Evelyn Ruth Edenfield in 1988. She is survived by her husband, George R. Edenfield of Douglasville; sister and brother-in-law, Anne and Fred Wallace of Douglasville; niece, Rev. Sheri Smith and her husband, Hugh; nephew, Thomas Wallace. Funeral Services will be conducted Sunday, August 29, 2010 at 1:00 PM from the Douglas Chapel of Jones-Wynn Funeral Home with Rev. Sheri Smith officiating. Interment will follow at the Edenfield Family Cemetery. The following will serve as pallbearers: Sam Henley, Dan Henley, Wilson Henley, Jr., Robert B. Cox, Mike Lee, Darren Chauppies, Jim Edenfield, and Thomas Wallace. Honorary Pallbearers will be Robert Cox and Brent Fail. The family will receive friends at Jones-Wynn Funeral Home, Douglas Chapel Saturday, August 28, 2010 from 6:00 PM until 9:00 PM.
