Joanne Marie Hazard, 83, of Douglasville, GA, passed away on August 22, 2025. She was born on September 6, 1941, the daughter of the late Joaquim Alves and the late Mary Gloria Nunes Alves.
As a dedicated medical professional, Joanne made significant contributions to the health and wellbeing of her community. Her career was marked by extraordinary compassion and a genuine desire to help others. Beyond her professional pursuits, Joanne was an active member of her church, where she generously volunteered her time and talents, reflecting her deep commitment to her faith and community.
An avid writer and scrapbook enthusiast, Joanne found joy in capturing memories and stories, weaving the fabric of her life into tangible keepsakes for her loved ones. Her fondness for classic movies inspired delightful discussions and shared laughter, further showcasing her fun-loving spirit. Additionally, Joanne's passion for swimming was not only a cherished pastime but also a reflection of her love for life and the exuberance she brought to everything she did.
Those who knew Joanne recognized her as a lovely individual, characterized by her generosity, humor, and caring nature. She was affectionately called “Jojo”, “Nana” or “Auntie Jojo” by her friends and family. She was a pillar of support to many, and her kindness left an indelible mark on the hearts of her family and friends.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband Raymond Hazard; sister, Mary Cave; and brother, Frank Alves.
She is survived by her daughters, Liza Barney (Louis) and Nicole Ramirez; sons, John Maye (Carmen), and Douglas Steven Cliett; sisters, Alice Amado and Catherine Lang; eight grandchildren, Carl Barney, John Eric Maye III, Alexis Barney, Jeanine Kaluda, Gabriella Jun, Brian Maye, Malachi Barney, and Samara Barney; and eight great-grandchildren, Elijah Barney, Kingston Barney, Ezelle Robinson, Easton Maye, Dashton Davis, Eliza Maye, Ramy Kaluda, and Laith Kaluda.
In keeping with her wishes she will be cremated and no service is planned at this time.
Joanne will be lovingly remembered for her elegance, her nurturing spirit, and her unwavering love for those around her. Her legacy lives on through the countless lives she touched and the memories she created.
