Joe Edward Gordon, Sr., age 95, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, great-great grandfather and friend, of Douglasville, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 1, 2026. He was born on February 11, 1931, the son of the late, Alexander Gordon and the late Daisy Miller Weatherington.
Joe lived a life marked by quiet strength, deep faith, and devoted love for his family. He was a proud U.S. Air Force veteran, who served his country with honor and dedication. His commitment to service extended beyond the military as he carried his values of integrity and humility into every aspect of his life. He was a homebuilder and electrician since 1954 and he retired from Lockheed twice. Joe was known as a quiet and laid back man. He was a Christian man whose faith was a guiding light for him throughout his years.
Joe had a passionate love for his family, especially his grandchildren and his 12-year-old Pomeranian - Bella. He treasured every opportunity to visit them, always taking time to share moments that would become lasting memories. His warmth and kindness left a profound impact on those around him.
In his leisure, Joe found joy in the simple pleasures. Joe enjoyed puzzles, challenging his mind with each piece, and found entertainment in playing BINGO. A man with a sweet tooth, Joe appreciated the small indulgences that brought happiness to his days.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wives, Pauline Waters Gordon, Dellie Buffington Gordon, and Phyllis Razor Gordon; brothers, Millard Gordon, Billy Gordon, and Calvin Gordon; sister, Kate Stokley.
He is survived by his childen, Joe “Joey” Gordon, Jr.; daughter and son-in-law, Heidi and Danny Wynn; grandchildren, Daniel (Deidric) Jr., Heath (Jamie), Dwight (Liz), Hallie ( Ande), and Dustin; great-grandchildren, Quentin (Trisha), Kyler (Elizabeth), Parker (Jade), Calvin, Lexi, Ethan, Zane, Zava, KayLeigh (Jackson), Courtney (Erica) and Andrew; great-great-grandchildren, Bella, Lily, Willow, Isaac, Claira, Madilyn, Reagan, and Codi; numerous nieces and nephews; and his loyal companion, Bella.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, May 12, 2026 at Jones-Wynn Douglas Chapel from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM. Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday, May 13, 2026 at 1:00 PM at Jones-Wynn Douglas Chapel with Pastor Eddie Wyatt officiating. Interment will follow at Sunrise Garden of Memories.
Joe Edward Gordon, Sr.’s legacy is one of love, quiet strength, and commitment to his family and country. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
