Joel Smith

Mr. Joel Ward Smith, 63, of Lithia Springs, Georgia passed away Wednesday, May 8, 2013. He was born October 29, 1949 in Douglasville, Georgia the son of the late Mr. Grady Abner Smith, Sr. and the late Mrs. Annie Ruth Rainwater Smith. He was a Veteran having serving in the United States Army National Guard. He worked in the Maintenance Department for Sweetwater Creek State Park and was a member of the Friends of Sweetwater Creek State Park. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Pamela Kay Smith and brother, Charles F. Smith. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Tanner Jay and Kate Smith of Atlanta; daughter and son-in-law, Jodi Lynn and Nick Byers of Lithia Springs; sister, Phyllis Smith Wellborn; brother, Grady A. “Sonny” Smith, Jr.; one granddaughter, Olivia Kaye Martin; one soon to be great-grandchild; several nieces and nephews also survive. According to the family’s wishes, the body was cremated. A Private Memorial Service will be planned at a later time by the family.
