John W. Allen, Sr. Mr. John W. Allen, Sr. (Wayne), age 73, of Cottage Grove, Carrollton, Georgia passed away Monday, May 14, 2012 at Tanner Medical Center. John was born May 8, 1939 in Carroll County, Georgia the son of the late Mr. Glover Allen and the late Mrs. Evie Parker Allen. John was a veteran having served in Germany, France, England and Turkey during the Lebanese Crisis. He retired from American General Life Insurance Company after 35 years. He managed offices in Waycross, Georgia, St. Simons Island, Albany, Georgia and Jacksonville, Florida. He graduated from Jacksonville State University with his Business Degree. John was a member of Sherwood Baptist Church in Albany, Georgia where he served as ordained Deacon and former member of the Lions Club. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his two brothers, Troy Allen and Clyde (Bud) Allen; father-in-law, Raymond Waldrop and mother-in-law, Clara Brown. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Marie W. Allen of Carrollton; daughter and son-in-law, Melanie and Stephen Fendley of Villa Rica; son and daughter-in-law, John W. and Debra Allen, Jr. of Leesburg, VA; sister and brother-in-law, Ruby and Don Nichols of Muscadine, AL, Tina and Steve Ward of Muscadine, AL; brother and sister-in-law, Tonnie and Tina Allen of Muscadine, AL; sisters-in-law and brother-in-law Joel and Brenda Dockery of Temple, Patricia Lawler of Bowden; five grandchildren, Lauren and Joe Wells of Temple, Thomas Fendley of Villa Rica, Olivia Parker and Kelton Allen of Leesburg, VA; one great-grandchild, Alena Wells of Temple. Several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews also survive. The family will receive friends from Jones-Wynn Funeral Home in Villa Rica Wednesday, May 16, 2012 from 6:00 PM until 9:00 PM. Funeral Service will be conducted Thursday, May 17, 2012 at 2:00 PM from the chapel of Jones-Wynn Funeral Home with Rev. Neil Williams officiating. Music will be by Danny Mote. Interment will follow in Glenn Memorial Park with the following gentlemen serving as pallbearers, Thomas Fendley, Matthew Lockhart, Corey Lockhart, Josh Allen, Will Allen, Jason Allen, Spencer Hembree and Duane Yoder. Honorary pallbearers will be Parker Allen, Kelton Allen, Olivia Allen, Lauren and Joe Wells, Jay and Gracie Yoder and Michael Couch in Afghanistan serving in the United States Navy. Military Honors will be provided by the Military Honor Guard. Family will receive friends and visitors at 38 Cottage Trail, Cottage Grove, Carrollton, Georgia.
